With International women’s day just round the corner, we are bringing you news about an exciting pathway that has opened up for doctors passionate about Breast disease management.

The Breast Clinician Credential programme is a comprehensive 3-year training programme created through collaboration between NHS England, National Breast Imaging Academy, Royal College of Radiologists and Association of Breast Clinicians. It is open to all doctors who are eligible to be appointed as a specialty doctor. This programme equips you with the knowledge and skills to support breast services – both surgical and radiological enabling you to join the growing breast clinician workforce to support breast screening and symptomatic services.

Active since 2019, this pathway has managed to offer Credentialed Breast Clinicians secure jobs on SAS doctor contracts in various breast units across the country.

Trainees have enjoyed the high quality, apprenticeship style training with a holistic view of the breast service. It has empowered clinicians to set up their own clinics addressing the unmet needs of the population they serve, improving service users experience and sharing in the workload of busy regional services. The role offers opportunities to develop your non-technical skills such as team-working and leadership abilities without on-call commitments promising a good work-life balance.
